With outdoor drinking days so few and far between, warm weather makes San Franciscans want to play hooky, grab a beer, worship the sun gods and cast a mad voodoo spell on the fog. Last week, we mostly focused on dining out-of-doors, but this time we're all about hitting the choicest al fresco bars for when the sky goes blue and the Bay gets balmy.

The backyard at Mars Bar may have a bit of a space-agey Jetsons feel, but Sammy S is right at home there, and certainly the far-out but down-to-earth bartenders help. A little Mission, a little punk and a little lesbian, El Rio's "come-all-cuz-we-love-you-and-don't-judge-you spirit" and legendary patio beckons to Jordano K when the weather's just right. Meanwhile, the garden at the Valley Tavern is draped with locals lounging under fronds and flowers, and it's Christoph S's chosen temple to worship all that is holy on football Sundays.

When the sun is shining, there's no place Sally K would rather be than at B -- with refreshing libations and swelligant views of the ever-changing downtown skyline, not to mention lots of "babes," we're right there with you, Sally. Looking out on the Ferry Building, the covered patio at Sens makes for a sensational happy hour spot on any breezy day, and Steven K finds it "rustic and manly," with stone, leather and wood accents creating an old world ambiance. Hair of the dog? The epic bacon and eggs brunch cocktail at Epic is sure to put you in better spirits, and Jared S never tires of the gorgeous, unobstructed view of the Bay Bridge.

Eye candy is even sweeter in the sun. Liverpool Lil's, with its sidewalk tables, is where Kristina R kicks it along with "boisterous local boys, laughing raucously about the good ol' days of yesteryear." Finnigan's Wake can be equally man-heavy with cute internationals on warm weekend afternoons, and Kristin G can be found there ping pongin' it on the back patio with a Bloody Mary in hand. Amidst the concrete grind of the Fi-Di, the Irish Bank's patrons spill into the alleyway, and Hannala T likens the bar to an Irish gal hobnobbing with lawyers and bankers and consultants, knowing deep down she's still from the Bronx.

Drink in the outdoors, yelpers, the weather ain't waiting for no one!

Janine M. on Wild Side West
"Wild Side West is quickly becoming my favorite bar in San Francisco. Really? you ask. That dingy little place? Well, friend, allow me to elaborate. I have never had a bad time at WSW, and I have been there, um, many times. Though this is undoubtedly due at least in part to the wonderful cohorts with…"

"One word, Suits! Good looking suits, young suits, old suits, cool suits, dorky suits... Suits for all kinds and they are all looking for you missy! Beware though, If there are suits in the lounge past 9:00pm, they are unaware of where they are, who they are, and have no idea they should be at home…"

"Cool Dive Bar + Good Food + Smokers Patio = Sunny San Francisco Saturday Afternoon Nirvana

Stars for:
1.  Being a kick ass dive bar: Great bartenders, outdoor patio....

2.  Great cheap drinks: Try the Palm Job - it's an Arnold Palmer (Iced Tea & Lemonade) with vodka @ 6 bucks a pop try 2 or 3 or 4....…"

Drinking outside
"This is a drinking-outside list, not necessarily a smoker list.   I'm not a smoker and I don't care where you smelly bastards can light up.  Also, I left off lame-ass excuses for "outside," like Hemlock and the Blackthorn."
